God, Country, Family…

For some people, these are just words. But for people like you and me, they are more than just words… They give our lives meaning.

And… in some cases…

Can even save our lives.

That’s what it did for me.

When I was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 1997, the doctors wrote me off. They told me to get my affairs in order. But they didn’t have what I had.

They didn’t have faith in our Lord.

I knew that God wanted me to survive to show the world his power and to inspire others. I knew that God helped those that helped themselves and so I did my best to show Him what I could accomplish.

I worked very hard believing that He would help me if He deemed me deserving.

I did all I could and left it in God’s hands. Then He did the rest because He knew I was a believer.

And now because of Him, I am the longest living mesothelioma survivor in the world.

I’m not special.

I’m no different to you or any of our brothers or sisters. God has saved thousands of cancer patients with the help of faith and prayer.

According to this study published in the National Institute of Health…

“Prayer may result in health and healing through one or more of several mechanisms.” – National Institute of Health

In another study, Doctors go on to say…

“Prayer is generally the most commonly used complimentary and alternative medicine, and we found that American adults who are cancer survivors have frequently made use of [prayer].

And in another study in Germany…

Researchers explored the effect of religious beliefs on side effects of radiation therapy among 105 patients with head and neck cancer. Patients were surveyed and then classified as “believers” or “non-believers.”

The study found that “believers” felt better before, during, and after the treatment, experiencing fewer adverse effects from the disease and the radiation.

But will any kind of prayer work?

According to the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine…

“Just over two-thirds (68.5%) of [the] cancer survivors had used prayer for health and 88% of those persons had prayed during the past year.

…Our data suggests that prayer for health is commonly used among cancer survivors.”

Now…

I’m sure you already have your favorite prayers. Prayers that bring you closer to God.

Every time you take a moment to talk to God, your day becomes so much better.
